Founder’s Friday: The Making of the Bandana Sport

Hi Hairbrella Family!

Happy Founder Friday! If spring days are on your mind as much as they are on mine, you’re going to love what we unveiled last year.

As you know, product development is not just a job for me—it’s a passion, a journey of discovering what our community needs and how we can meet those needs with creativity and innovation.

Introducing the Bandana Sport!

From our flagship Classic Rain Hat born from 65 prototypes to our expanding line of hair protection, each Hairbrella innovation carries a story. Today, I’m excited to spotlight the Bandana Sport—a fusion of function and performance, crafted from direct observation and your direct requests.

Over the years, I’ve developed a bit of an obsession with observing headwear—so much so that it’s turned into a bit of a humorous problem.

😅 Yes, I’ve caught a few sideways glances from people who might think I’m staring a little too intently… or even making a pass. But really, I’m just fascinated by the various ways people choose to cover and protect their hair!

From casual strolls in the park to busy city sidewalks, I’ve noticed a particular trend that’s captured my attention: the combination of satin scarves tucked under baseball caps.

I’ve often wondered, what’s going on here? Are they keeping their hair wrap fresh from unpredictable spring weather? Are they trying to prevent the rough touch of the cap from rubbing against their hair, causing breakage? Maybe they’ve covered up a bad hair day, or perhaps they’ve just stepped out of the salon and are looking to preserve those perfect pin curls for an upcoming event?

These observations and my own experiences led me to realize something crucial: while many enjoy the casual look and light coverage of a baseball cap, and appreciate how it usually keeps hair in place, the cap alone isn’t enough. A satin scarf is often necessary to securely tie the hair down or wrap it up, ensuring the hair remains protected from friction.

It became clear that our Waterproof, Satin-Lined Bandana provided excellent protection, yet it needed one crucial element—a visor.

Recognizing this gap, the idea for the Bandana Sport was born. I envisioned a single, functional solution that would eliminate the need for layering multiple headwear pieces, making life a little easier whether you're running errands or hitting the gym.

Thus, the Bandana Sport—a hybrid of practicality and protection, crafted to meet your headwear needs in one sleek, comfortable design.
